‘Blessed are you, O Lord, our God, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory
and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
"
- 1Chronicles 29:10ff

Stewardship is About Caring for God's Gifts
Christians believe that life is a God-given gift. Being a good steward of that gift is our grateful response. And stewardship is about taking care of every gift left in our care: the time, talents and money we hold, and the love, vocation and very lives we are given to live. Using these gifts to serve others and build community is the road to discovering that a living may be made by what we earn, but a life is made by what we give.

Financial Gifts Fully Fund The Church's Worship, Fellowship and Mission
St. John's, like most churches, fully funds its mission by what its membership and supporters offer. Time, worship and talent are important, but the church will starve and vanish without regular financial gifts. Every member has a duty to give money according to their ability. All gifts are fully tax refundable. A full accounting of how those gifts are turned into service, compassion and hope can be found in our annual Narrative Budget.

How Much Do I Give?
Advice abounds about what to give. We give out of our own need to do so. Giving forms relationship - with God, one another and with community. Scripture teaches that we should set aside 10% of our income to provide for the needs of others. Gifts ought to be offered based on "first fruits"... what's right, not what's left over. Guidance about how to support your church as a first priority can begin with the 1/1000 guideline - give a dollar a week for each $1000/year in income. Gifts will vary depending on individual circumstances. Give according to your ability. Even a small gift can make a huge difference.
