The seasons of the church year are set out to represent the
birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We are careful at St. John's
to prepare well for the important festivals, including observing a holy
Advent leading up to the Feast of the Nativity, Christmas.
III- Nine Lessons and Carols
The secong last Sunday before Christmas is one of the few times the Eucharist
is not celebrated at 10am, replaced with this wonderful celebration of
scipture and music. Fashioned like a vigil leading up to Christmas, it
recounts the story of the promise of the ages being kept in God's sending
of Jesus, born of Mary. Anthems, carols and beloved readings make up this
service of the word.
Eve, 4pm - Family Service
This service is built around a simple communion, and will have you on
your way in time for the children to be settled, ready for the visit of
Eve, 7:30pm and 10:00pm
Full, sung choral Eucharists crown our Christmas celebrations. You are
welcome at these services which include beloved carols, anthems and the
reading of the Christmas gospel. The 10:00pm service includes a candle-light
singing of Silent Night. Merry Christmas!
Christmas Day is second only to Easter as a high feast in the Church.
At 10am, Christmas Communion is celebrated in the community. This service
includes carols, a warm welcome and the good news of Christ's birth. You
